After over 40 years in the industry Peter James has had several careers including building a successful business, but what you may not know is that during this entire time he has also been a student of the martial arts. Since 1974 he has studied many different styles, but for the last 30 years has primarily focus on the Japanese Sword Arts. In 2014 he was inducted into the Australian Martial Arts Hall of Fame, and as the Head of the WA School of Japanese Swordsmanship he is entitled to call himself “Shihan”.
In Japan the way of the sword and the way of business run in parallel – the powerful Samurai families are now the business power brokers in Japan, names like Honda, Toyota, Suzuki are just a few. The art of the sword is about the art of strategy and tactics, and the West has long been intrigued by books such as Sun Tsu’s Art of War or Musashi’s Book of Five Rings.
For the first time, Peter combines his professional career and Martial Arts experience to Career and Life Self Mastery.
Industry is demanding people who are
open to change,
ready to learn new skills,
and are flexible.
These days, every individual is their own small enterprise with their unique brand and a requirement to focus on their personal sales, marketing, production, training and development, and finance.
The freelance and outsourcing marketplace are growing rapidly. Networking tools like LinkedIn and specialised online bidding for jobs are recruitment’s new “weapons” of choice. Long gone are the days of joining a company and staying with that company until retirement and having them look after all your working needs.
Like never before your Career is your responsibility – you will need to stay aware, agile and have a flexible strategy in place to ensure that you stay career-relevant in this fast changing and increasingly competitive, global job market.
